The Art and Science of

Being Whole

Marriage and Family Therapist, license # MFC36431

Certified Hypnotherapist

My Philosophy or Approach

As a therapist, I honor each person as a unique individual with his or her own path.  I believe that there are many paths to healing and personal growth.  For this reason I have sought out training in variety of different therapies.  I can thus tailor therapy to the needs and preferences of each person.  In individual therapy or counseling I work with my clients, in collaboration, to achieve the best results.  I explain and offer choices in regard to the modalities used in therapy.  I am respectful of, and inquire regarding, each person’s needs, wants and beliefs.   The therapy is very client centered.  While I have expertise in a number of therapeutic techniques and a depth of experience, I recognize that each person is the expert in his or her own life.  Together  we can address whatever concern brings a person to therapy in a safe, healing and productive way.

In working with children, I see each child as the incredible, precious being that he or she is.  I recognize, however, that child behaviors can be extremely challenging and maladaptive.   I work with child and parent(s) to remove obstacles and resolve issues to clear the path toward the child reaching his or her full potential.  For more information go to child therapy and attachment therapy.

In my personal growth classes I work to create a fun, safe and creative environment in which each person can learn and explore.

My Training:

In addition to my Masters of Science degree in Counseling Psychology, and the training and supervised hours required for my license, I have extensive training in the following areas:

Narrative Therapy

Play Therapy

Children and Trauma

My Experience:

I have worked as a therapist for over 15 years.  I have experience in a wide range of issues and concerns, having provided therapy to hundreds of clients, from preschool age children through adults.  I have worked in private practice as well as private and public agencies.  My extensive training provides me with a wide variety of tools and techniques that allow me to customize my therapy approach for each client.  I have worked with clients on a wide range of issues including creative blocks, test anxiety, trauma, depression, anxiety, quitting smoking, child trauma and behavior, and adoption and attachment issues in children.

One of my specialties is in my work with young children, preschool to 12 years of age.  I have assessed and provided therapy to literally hundreds of children.  In addition to my work as a child therapist, I have also worked as a Mental Health Consultant to the Lake and Mendocino County Head Start programs.

I have often been called upon to provide training for private and public agencies.  Trainings I have given include Understanding Attachment, Working with Children with Attachment issues, Understanding Trauma, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Children and Trauma, Stress Reduction, and addressing Countertransference.
